Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus ) Belongs to family Liliaceae and grows throughout Nepal, Sri Lanka, India and the Himalayas. It is a climber which grows up to 2 meters. It is also known by other Sanskrit names Shataveerya, Bahusutha, and Atirasa. Roots of this herb is rich in medicinal properties and are regularly used in preparation of ayurvedic medicines.
Pharmacology of Ayurveda describes this herb as heavy to digest (guru) and it contains more moisture (snigdha). It is sweet and little bitter to taste (madhura rasa and tikta rasa). The sweet taste remains even after digestion (Madhura Vipaka). It is cold in potency (sheeta veerya)
