Roots of ashwagandha have been praised as ‘ati shukrala’ which means it enhances the quality and quantity of shukra dhatu (semen). Texts of Ayurveda eulogize aphrodisiac properties of ashwagandha roots. It is said that “Kando vajikaraha smritaha”–The roots of ashwagandha act as Vajikara or aphrodisiac. Shatavari has cold potency and sweet to taste. It is a ‘rasayana’ herb (the one which helps in rejuvenation of body) and boosts ‘shukra dhatu’ (enhances quality and quantity of semen). Shatavari not only balances vata, pitta and rakta but also improves strength and stamina.
Shatavari contains a group of steroidal saponins. It also contains vitamins A, B1, B2, C, E, Mg, P, Ca, Fe, and folic acid. Other primary chemical constituents of Asparagus are essential oils, asparagine, arginine, tyrosine, flavonoids (kaempferol, quercetin, and rutin), resin, and tannin.
