Improper consumption of castor oil causes vomiting, stomach pain, internal bleeding in digestive system and other untoward effects. This oil can be used safely as an external application. Medicated castor oil is used in panchakarma therapies.
Acharya Sushruta explains medicinal properties of castor oil as follows
Based on principles of Ayurveda this oil increases moistness and imparts softness to tissues. It is hot in potency and helps to relieve pain quickly. It normalises vata and kapha. Castor oil increases pitta when consumed internally and pacifies pitta when applied externally.
External application of this oil has various benefits.
Reduces inflammation and itching of skin. : Castor oil when applied on inflamed and itchy skin quickly reduces the symptoms. It heals the damaged skin and restores the normal colour. Hence it is very useful in sunburns, dry skin and other skin ailments.
Reduces wrinkles and lines of aging: massage whole body and face with warm castor oil and leave it for 20 minutes. Later wash it off with shikakai or mild soap. This oil locks the moisture content of skin and makes it wrinkle free.
Dark Circles: applying castor oil on eye lids and under the eye every day night helps to get rid of dark circles and also reduces dryness of eyes.

Beeswax is also known as “Madhuchista” (the spit of bees) in Sanskrit. This wax is an amazing natural substance that can be used in many ways to improve our health. Texts of Ayurveda eulogise this plant with various names based on its physical features. It is explained as follows.
It is known as Karanaja, since it colours water. The inflorescence looks very beautiful like a garland at night hence it is Naktamaala. The flowers bloom in bunches and Ayurveda acharyas praise it as Gucchapushpaka. The seeds of this plant when processed yield an oil which looks like ghee hence the name Ghritapoora. The leaves of pongamia are shiny and have oily texture, thus the name Singhdhapatra.
In India it is regionally known by different names. It is known as Dithouri in Hindi, Indian beech in English, Pongum in Tamil and Malayalam, Honge mara in kannada.
Medicinal Properties of Karanja or Pongamia Pinnata
Acharya charaka has grouped this herb under name Kandughna. This means the herb which helps to reduce itching in skin diseases. Hence this herb is usually recommended in skin conditions like psoriasis and dry skin. Karanja is an ingredient of PSORIBAN cream for Psoriasis and Dry skin.
This herb tastes bitter, pungent and acts as astringent. It is hot in potency and penetrates the deep tissues. It is light and gets absorbed quickly.
