In psoriasis, the skin becomes dry; due to this dryness the skin starts flaking and itching starts. In order to keep the skin moist you need to apply natural ayurvedic skin tonics or moisturizers which prevent skin from drying.
Ayurvedic Oils for psoriasis:
If psoriasis or dry eczema are mild you can use coconut oil. If it is moderate use sesame oil. If it is severe use castor oil. Always massage warm oil. Do not heat oil directly on flame. Keep it in a bowl containing hot water. Do not add irritating herbs like garlic, pepper etc to oil.
Beeswax in another wonder fatty substance for psoriasis and dry skin. It can be mixed with other oils before applying externally.
Dry skin is the major symptom of psoriasis. These natural oils act like skin moisturizers . Only if the skin is moist the skin won’t become dry and there won’t be any itching sensation. A combination of oils like 1 teaspoon wheat germ oil, 1 teaspoon of castor oil and a cup of sunflower oil make a best home remedy for psoriasis. This mixture should be applied on the affected part.
Ayurvedic remedies for scalp psoriasis:
Scalp psoriasis has to be addressed with light oils. Massage scalp with warm pure coconut oil . You can also use coconut oil processed with anti psoriasis herbs like neem, amla, bringaraja etc as in Keshpride Hair oil . It soothes scalp skin, prevents infection and flaking.
Soaps are always harsh and strip off the natural oils of skin. Instead of soap use an ayurvedic home made scrub. This scrub may be prepared by mixing 1 cup of gram flour or besan, ½ cup moong dal flour (Bengal gram flour) and ¼ cup of methi flour (flour made from fenugreek seeds). Mix these well and store in an airtight container. Soak 2 tea spoons of this mix in 2 tea spoon of water and leave for 15 minutes. Use this as a body scrub.

Follow a psoriasis Diet
According Ayurveda foods can heal or cause diseases. Consume foods which complement your dosha Prakriti or constitution. Avoid eating foods like tomatoes, coke, sugar, jaggery, processed foods, refined flour, bakery foods, fatty meat etc. Do not eat foods which cause indigestion and bloating.
Drink plenty of water
Good amount of Water balances kappa dosha. Balanced Kapha dosha improves moistness of skin and nullifies effects of vata dosha which cause dryness of skin. Drink 7 to 8 glasses of warm water. It expels body toxins or Ama.
Take bath in sea water
Practice Yoga and Meditation
Surya Namaskar or sun salutations in early morning is the best yoga for psoriasis. It is also a very good exercise. Meditation keeps the mind calm and prevent stress. Stress is the main triggering factor for psoriasis.
